Blake Lewis, runner-up on American Idol’s season 6, has reemerged with the first new track, “Sad Song,” from his upcoming dance-pop album.
The tune is an electro meditation on heartbreak coinciding with the title of his second album, Heartbreak on Vinyl, due out Oct. 6, on Tommy Boy Entertainment.
“‘Sad Song’ is a melancholy anthem,” Lewis tells PEOPLE. “This one is for the broken-hearted. Upon making this record, I had never really known what it was like to feel broken-hearted. Now I know, and from that experience I wrote ‘Sad Song’ for all of those who have shared my pain.”
Shape-shifting from pop-rock to dance-pop, Lewis hopes to show his range with this new single, on which he sings, “we fight, while we cry/surrender do or die.” (c)People.com
